Founded by Artist Director/Choreographer Alrick “Ricky” Thomas (Class of ‘08), Modern Dance was created to give students the opportunity to explore ballet, contemporary, and abstract movement in a way that challenges both performers and audiences. Ricky, an alum of the Performing Arts program, was a member of the West Indian ensemble and also performed solo modern dances and duets during his time at Randolph, long before Modern Dance was officially established. His passion for movement and storytelling led him to pursue a professional dance career, and he returned to SBI to pass on his knowledge to the next generation. Under his guidance as Teaching Artist, students develop discipline, creativity, and a deep understanding of how dance can push artistic boundaries. Modern Dance continues to be a space where students grow as artists, learning to express themselves through movement that is both bold and boundary-breaking.
